Party Rock Anthem

The other day Sienna kept singing this over and over. She says she heard it when she was at school. Its got to be school, Lisa would NEVER EVER play this at home! I asked her to sing it for me so i could have proof.

Maine trip

We took a long overdue trip to visit Geneva, Layne, Phoenix and Lennox in Bangor Maine last weekend (August 26th to 30th). It so happens that there was a hurricane (Irene) baring down on the east coast at the time. I was actually considering staying in NY to keep an eye on our stuff. I have been through a couple of hurricanes and am aware of the mess it could make. I put the grill and the umbrella in the garage just in case it got really really bad.

In the end, Lisa and i decided that the best thing to do was to get the hell out of town. So we did.The plan was to leave early Friday morning (6am ish) to avoid rush hour and possible evacuating traffic. It kinda worked.

The traffic was light so we got out of the city and were quickly on our way.

We stopped at this hole in the wall place for lunch. I grumbled the entire detour to this place but i have to admit that the food was very good. Checkout Lisas blog for a rundown of how the food was.

We arrived in Bangor around 4:30 5ish. Lisa had been in contact with Geneva via text, updating her on our eta. The whole family were outside! it was good to see them.

Maine is so different from Brooklyn (DUH). In Maine, the kids can play outside unsupervised!! i was floored and a little afraid. My Brooklyn instincts kept kicking in. It took a while for me to be comfortable with just letting Sienna go outside and play. i am envious of Phoenix to be able to do that. It seems so simple. I wish i could let Sienna do that at home. Too many fucked up people in NY for that though. I guess there are fucked up people everywhere but in Maine, i had the sense that the neighbors were keeping an eye on the kids too.

I was glad to see that Sienna and Phoenix got along as if they had just seen each other the other day. They played a lot that weekend along with another little girl from down the street. I didn’t get any pictures of her though..

Lisa and i slept in the game room.

This is what happens if you stay in the game room too long..

Phoenix is really into soups of all kinds. Anything can be part of a soup.

Sienna and her new sword. Here the girls are mesmerized by the TV. Sienna tried to get Phoenix into Shera. I don’t know if it worked.

We visited the river front the next day (Saturday), where there was a folk festival going on with music and food. it kinda reminded me of the big E that we go to every year.

lennox is so cute!! here she’s just chillin in the stroller checking out whats going on.

i love these little doughnuts!! i almost ate the entire thing by myself. Who am i kidding, i did eat the whole thing by myself..

On Sunday It rained like a motherfucker all day because of the hurricane. So we pretty much just hung out inside. Lisa and i tried to go to brunch but the downpour was just too much.

This is what i ate. So much for my cholesterol issue. The buffet was really quite good. I did what you’d normally do with a buffet and ate too much.

That night we took everyone out for dinner at an Irish Pub. The food was good there too. One thing i can say about the trip is that i ate very well.

Downtown Bangor.

Thank you to the Whiteleys for their great hospitality and a wonderful Maine weekend!!

We left the next day (Monday) after breakfast at a bagel place downtown..

We headed out towards Salisbury Mas. It was a little beach town that Star recommended. It was a cool typical beach place.

We had lunch at this place. Outside seating so the flies and mosquitoes can eat too. We were just bombarded with friggin bugs!! The food was good but the bugs kinda ruined the experience. We didn’t stick around too long after that.

The arcade was cool. Sienna kept wanting to play the big sit down games that cost way too much. Here’s Lisa enjoying a game of her youth.

We decided to stay at a Hamptons Inn so we could swim in the pool and just chillax before going home the next day.

The drive back sucked!! for me anyway. Lots of traffic everywhere!! Sienna got to watch Tarzan on Lisa’s iPad TWICE IN A ROW! ugh! at least it kept the whining down for a little bit. I think Sienna missed the freedom of running around and playing all weekend long. I miss that too..

I think this post takes the record for the longest post i have ever made. Its also taken too long to get up. Work is starting to get more and more of my time. The convention is just around the corner. Lots of visual elements to create…

Bronx Zoo with grandma

Last weekend while grandma was visiting, we took a trip back to the Bronx Zoo. We figured that since we have a membership, we might as well use it.

It was a nice day, a bit overcast and not too humid.

Aren’t they cute!! This is in the Children’s zoo area which is an additional cost normally but since we were members, we get in free. I don’t get the additional cost thing, i mean, whats the point of charging an entrance fee at the door to the zoo then you try and charge people extra to see some of the animals!! Whatever, its a shitty practice.

Sienna couldn’t wait to go on the merrygoround. She remembered it from our last visit and wouldn’t stop asking if we were going there now..

i hope grandma had fun. i think she did.

Sienna has zoo ADD. Some animals, she couldn’t give a shit about.

Chicago Trip 2011

As i mentioned in a previous post, on July 14th we started our road trip to Chicago. I had a doctors appointment early that morning so we left right after (around 10ish). Jenny (the GPS) said that it would take 13hours to compleet. Jenny is a little strange sometimes. She tends to send us the weirdest directions. Whenever we use her services, we need to double check her path with google. Anyway, we decided to do the trip it in 2 hops. That way we could stop at a hotel (Sienna loves hotels) and swim in the pool.

Lisa Driving

Sienna didn’t nap nearly as much as i thought she would. She is a good traveler though so i’m not complaining.

iPad entertainment rules!!

This iPad so rules!! We were able to look at maps, find restaurants, find hotels as well as provide entertainment for Sienna. Here, she is watching word girl.

The next day, we arrived after hanging out in rush hour traffic. Jenny (our stupid GPS) had us going through downtown instead of around the city. Big surprise, i should have known. Normally it would have been ok but at 4pm on a Friday, good luck. We got there around 5pm.

Rich and Theresa

Elvis

Dexter

Rich cooking pizzas on the grill

Rich rocked the gril as he always does!! The pizza was so good! i need to try it out sometime. I kinda forgot the steps though..Sienna and Dexter played a lot that weekend. Its so cool to have so much space for Sienna to run around. The hot dogs from this place (Superdog) wer sooo friggin good!! Lisa had requested this one. She read something online about it. I’d love to go back next time i’m in town. A bit pricey but well worth it. The entire lunch for 4 adults and one 4yo came in at about $40 not including the tip..We had to go visit the Bean. The last time Sienna was here, she was so little. It was cool to bring her back and watch her excitement.

The water falls were fun for her too. It was starting to get very hot and humid so it was a little crowded. She didn’t stay as long as i thought she would though.

Superman ice cream

Even though our trip was very short, we had a wonderful time with Rich, Theresa, Dexter and Elvis. We ended up driving back on Monday after an awesome breakfast. We did stop halfway only this time we didn’t go to our favorite Hampton Inn. Instead, we went to a Best Western UGH, huge mistake!! the water in the pool was murky which creeped me out. We didn’t stay long. At least the room was clean.

New rule, its got to be a Hampton Inn!!

Graduation

Back in June, Sienna “graduated” from nursery school. I have mixed feelings about the private school experience that i wont go into. needless to say she’s going to public school next year. i hope the experience will be better. All in all though, she had a good time and met some nice kids that we hope to keep in touch with in the future.

Here are some clips from her ceremony:

Snow storm 2010

On Sunday the 26th we had a huge snow storm go through the NY area. Brooklyn recorded up to 20 inches with the snow drifts measuring in at way more than that.

We got up on monday to find snow covering EVERYTHING in sight!! UGH, i had a LOT of shoveling ahead of me. Its a good thing we had a snow blower right? Well no not exactly you see, the snow blower only works if there isn’t any wind. It turned out to be a VERY windy day so the blower was not an option. GRRRRRRR!! it all had to be done by hand.

I started early that morning and did as much as i could with the wind blowing. I ended up being outside for HOURS! I’ve never been so exhausted in my life!! It ended up taking me 3 days to completely remove the snow.

I do know somebody that had a great time though. She doesn’t have snow clothes that fit so Lisa had to improvise a bit.
